It’s Week 3 of the Character Resume Challenge! This week, our focus is on Values!
I believe that identifying your values are the most important activities you’ll do in the Character Resume Challenge. Your values guide most of your actions and decisions on a daily basis. Conflicts in your life usually center around your values.
Here’s an example…for those that know me and/or subscribe to this blog, I am obsessed with working out (Fitness/Health is my #1 Value). I’ve kept track of EVERY workout I’ve done since January 2, 2000 – that’s right, for 22+ years! Yes, I know every workout I’ve done every day for over 22 years! Is that slightly obsessive?
I set yearly movement goals, usually 1,000 miles running/walking/elliptical and 3,000 miles biking/indoor cycling. Since this is my last year in my 50’s, I decided to try increase my standard goal – 1,200 miles running/walking/elliptical and 3,400 miles biking/indoor cycling. I also added two additional goals – 15,000 push-ups and sit-ups and 7.25 million steps. At the half-way point of the year, I have achieved:
- 670 miles running/walking/elliptical
- 1,727 miles biking/indoor cycling
- 8,140 push-ups and sit-ups
- 3,734,654 steps
So far, so good. But I still have 26 more weeks to go, so I have to keep on moving. (P.S. I think I’m going to see different fitness/exercise goals for my 60’s; this is getting REALLY hard to maintain almost every day!)
